2014 Deniliquin

The 54th Annual FMA Conference was held in Deniliquin in late May 2014 and was a resounding success. Over 240 delegates travelled from across the country and overseas to attend the 3 ½ day event.

The technical workshops and sessions saw FMA Members and attendees engaged in discussions on flood risk management, land use planning and living with levees.

The Conference was officially opened by a video presentation from the Federal Minister for Justice Michael Keenan. During his address Minister Keenan also officially launched the Australian Emergency Management Handbook 7: Managing the Floodplain, which is a milestone document that applies right across Australia.

NSW Environment Minister Rob Stokes was represented at the Opening Ceremony by OEH Director Derek Rutherford.

Delegates also attended the official opening of the Deniliquin Levee; the 17km levee project that had been underway since 1993 and was completed in 2011.

The Conference included the memorable Ute Muster social event with exciting Ute barrel racing, whip cracking and boot throwing competitions.

Thanks to Deniliquin Council for the great country hospitality and for being outstanding hosts.
