The FMA Conference has been held annually since 1961 and is the most respected flood risk management event held in Australia.

The 2021 Conference marks the 60th Anniversary of FMA, and celebrated the history of the organisation, the Members that make the network possible, and the phenomenal advances in flood risk management.

Due to the unpredictable nature of lockdowns and social distancing, and taking our Members' health and safety as our first priority, FMA made the difficult decision of transitioning this event from it's slated location of Luna Park, Sydney to a comprehensive online platform.

Throughout the week, delegates were able to virtually sit in on a number of presentations focussed on flood risk management throughout the nation, while still safely connecting and networking with their colleagues.

On Tuesday evening, a select number of delegates were able to gather in Sydney and Brisbane for our Pre-Conference Dinner of three courses and drinks by the water, sponsored by BMT, and Thursday evening in Sydney and Brisbane held the Young Floodplain Managers Network Casual Dinners, sponsored by WMAwater.

Unfortunately, the Melbourne YFM event had to be postponed. Hopefully our Victorian YFMS will be able to enjoy their Conference celebration very soon.

Delegates got the opportunity to experience the new Conference Platform which allowed multiple concurrent streams, improved attendee connectivity and networking, and greater interaction overall. While it may not have been an in-person event as is the norm for our annual Conferences, this platform hosted just as many fantastic conversations and lively Q&A sessions!
