Overland Flow Fact Sheet

This resource has been developed following the requests from numerous FMA Members for a fact sheet to accompany Overland Flow Flood Studies going on Public Exhibition, and to help Members communicate with Councillors, Council officers, ratepayers and the general public. This is a plain-English, two-page explainer about what overland flow is and the types of impacts it can have. The Fact Sheet also addresses questions people may have about property values and insurance premiums in relation to overland flow.

FMA ICA Flood Insurance Fact Sheets

The FMA together with the Insurance Council of Australia has put together three Flood Insurance Fact Sheets covering Flood Insurance Pricing, Insurer Flood Data Requirements and Sharing Flood Risk Information for use by our FMA Members.

Flood Insurance Template Fact Sheets

As advised at the 2014 AGM former Communications Director Brooke O’Rourke and Technical Director Danny Rose have drafted a template flood insurance fact sheet which Member Councils can use for community education purposes. The fact sheet is based on an excellent document developed by Lake Macquarie City Council in conjunction with the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).
It is clear that the community is having a difficult time understanding the various roles of Councils and insurers in the assessment and pricing of flood insurance, and is confusing concepts such as probable maximum flood and climate change with present flood risk. The fact sheet template can be tailored to suit individual requirements, and is provided in two versions, one for coastal councils and the other for inland councils.
