FMA at Flood CoP Meetings

1st December 2020

Over the last 4 months the Queensland Flood Community of Practice (CoP) has held a series of “Flood Fundamentals” workshops covering flood models, flood insurance and planning schemes.

FMA President Ian Dinham and FMA Queensland Director Will Prentice attended the last workshop at the Gold Coast in November. Titled "Designing Flood Risk into a planning scheme to roll back the flood”, the session covered:

  • Strategic, fiscal and other key strategies that drive managing risk
  • Flood risk incorporated into planning scheme measures
  • Collaborative governance to make it work
  • Local flood resilient initiatives in the Brisbane floodplain, Norma Creek and the Gold Coast.

Mr Dinham congratulated Coordinator Piet Filet, the CoP team and presenters on delivering a valuable series of workshops to “demystify” the practical application of flood risk management in Queensland.
