Welcome to Central Highlands Regional Council

1st February 2019

FMA would like to welcome it's newest Full Member to the association's ever-growing national network of flood professionals; Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC).

CHRC is located in Central Queensland and the region includes the Shires of Bauhinia, Duaringa, Emerald and Peak Downs.

CHRC has invested heavily since the 2010/11 event to improve its intelligence, knowledge, and analysis of flood risk, and introduced a number of land planning controls into its planning scheme around flood risk.

Some of these works include:

  • CHRC Floodplain Management Study (2012-14)
  • Flood mitigation investigations in Emerald (river works, new street evacuation route, flood protection scheme)
  • Flood mitigation investigations for Rolleston
  • Flood warning network
  • Capture of over 570 historic flood heights across the region.

If you would like to find out more about CHRC, and their floodplain risk management efforts, please visit their website at chrc.qld.gov.au.

The FMA Membership now includes over 150 Members from around Australia and overseas. It includes Councils, CMAs, government agencies and businesses, as well as flood professionals, retired flood experts and students.
