FMA Member Wins LGNSW Award for Excellence

30th January 2019

FMA Full Member, Liverpool City Council has won the 2018 Water Management Award at the LGNSW Excellence in the Environment Awards.

Council took home the highly-coveted prize for their Amalfi Park Basin - Brickmakers Creek Flood Mitigation Project, which FMA Members will also recall from the 2018 FMA Excellence Awards.

The project included significant works to reduce and relieve flooding in the area including:
  • Channel widening
  • Culvert enhancement
  • Construction of a 48ML flood detention basin.
Upon completion, the efforts of Council have enhanced the ecological health of the creek, improved water quality, provided direct flood relief to 62 properties and the northern CBD, and included passive and active recreation (sports field, wetland, viewing platform and walkways).

Congratulations to Liverpool City Council on their win, and for raising the profile of best practice flood risk management for their local community and the rest of New South Wales.
